Hardware/Software Engineering
PGM Diversified Industries (PGMDI) capabilities include:
  • specialized, one-of-a-kind design and engineering tasks, when the company is called upon as a last resort after others have failed to achieve a difficult design or integration assignment.
  • complex, multi-disciplinary assignments perhaps involving physics, sensing and control, and embedded microprocessor systems that more conventional engineering firms consider too difficult or even impossible to achieve.
  • diagnosis of existing equipment and processes, especially when electrical or electronic equipment failures must be analyzed.
  • develop software systems which integrate data acquisition, computer networks, relational databases, multimedia, and custom hardware. We can work with your embedded applications or can integrate your desktop systems using computer networks.

PGMDI skills can provide you with:

  • Production Hardware. A product’s success in the market often depends critically on its time to market. PGMDI can design and fabricate your proof-of-principle as well as production prototypes. The company has successfully performed these tasks on a wide range of products. While not a manufacturing company, PGMDI’s staff is knowledgeable in manufacturing processes, and can assist your staff to move your products quickly to market.
  • Disparate Technologies. Success in creating and operating many complex systems often demands the combination of disparate technologies into a working whole at minimum cost. PGMDI’s staff, skilled in many specific technologies, combines their talents to work as a team and optimize an overall package.
  • Embedded Microcontrollers. Foremost among PGMDI’s skill set is its intimate knowledge of microprocessors that serve as embedded controllers. Increasingly, microprocessors are used to convert traditional components and systems into "intelligent" devices to improve system flexibility and performance. The microprocessor must often interface with non-electronic functions, such as mechanical and pneumatic equipment, optical and magnetic devices. It then provides system intelligence, acting as smart "traffic cops" at the heart of a system.
  • Software Engineering. This is the "glue" which integrates electronic and mechanical functions and interfaces with the human operator/user. PGM can develop sophisticated standalone systems or can integrate your controllers and systems to other systems as to Internet users and corporate databases.
Do you need a protoype?

A prototype – the first of a kind – confronts the designer with the toughest challenges. Many iterations, compromises, and trade-offs occur during the prototype desing cycle. In some applications, as for a specialized digital video compressor we developed for NASA, the technical specifications were very demanding and only one of a kinf was called for. No reproductions were required, even in low volumes. Normally, however, prototypes transfer to production devices. Careful development of the prototype at the early design stages will minimize downstream porduction engineering time.

We have developed prototype biomedical instrumentation, diagnostic instrumentation for automotive electrocoat systems and microprocessor based controls.

Some our past projects have included:

Karaoke-in-a box multimedia informational kiosk. Involved control software development, design and development of a distributed microprocessor control system, and a continuously loading cassette recorder, with multimedia software.
Concept to prototype – 7 months

VJT Measurement System™ – Submersible process monitoring system. Required development of submersible data acquisition system, and specialized sensors to measure in-process parameters (current density, voltage, and temperature).
Concept to prototype – 6 months

RadGuard™ – Radon test tamper monitor system. Battery-powered device utilizing a highly integrated microcontroller and sensor system to detect movement of radon sensor and attempts to thwart the sensor by covering or movement.
Concept to prototype – 4 weeks

We can provide software engineering support for projects in Visual Basic, C++, ASP and multi-platform 4D.
